Cooking with Kids - National Yorkshire Pudding Day

Yorkshire pudding batter is a great recipe to make with kids.  Dead simple.  Really inexpensive and delicious.

This is our no fail recipe, even MadDad and the Minimads make it with success every time.

Ingredients (makes 12 to 16 puddings)

115g of plain flour
Pinch of salt
3 eggs
275 ml of milk (or half milk and water)
  1. Put all the ingredients in a bowl and blend or whisk to a smooth consistency, kind of like single cream.
  2. Put the batter in the fridge to let the air bubbles settle.
  3. Heat your oven to its hottest setting and add some sunflower oil or lard to a Yorkshire pudding tin.  Place the tin in the oven and make sure the oil is very hot (smoking), pour the batter into the tins and place back in the oven.
  4. Leave at full temp for 5 minutes and then turn the oven down to 180 degrees for 20 minutes or until the Yorkshire puddings are golden and risen.
  5. DO NOT OPEN YOUR OVEN DOOR FOR THE FIRST TWENTY MINUTES.
The only part of this my boys do not do now is the oven bit.  We have yorkshire puddings most Sundays and I have not made the batter myself in the last two years!

Comments

  1. Love, love, love yorkshire puds, dinner just wouldn't be the same without them. I never add salt and have often thought about it and will give it a try next time.

Bissell Vac and Steam Machine Review and Giveaway

I have hard floors downstairs which I love.  They are much more practical than carpet with 2 mucky boys and a dog. Over the past 8 years I have tried all sorts of ways to keep them clean and I think I have finally found the product that does that for me. It is the  Bissell Vac and Steam Machine .  This amazing suel action machine vacuums and steam cleans either independently or at the same time.  It means that I have done away with my vacuum and steam cleaner downstairs (which I gave to my brother in law). What I like: You can either vacuum or steam clean or do both It is lightweight and easy to manoeuvre The handle is adjustable great for a home with people of different heights and for getting the kids involved. You need no chemicals The pads are washable and reusable It comes with a two year guarantee It warms up fast (within 30 seconds) so no long wait to start cleaning It costs under £100 It is space saving.  No need for a separate vacuum, steam cleaner or mop.
