A Mindful Christmas

One of the things that is important to me if that we do not overspend at christmas.  I want my children to grow up understanding the significance of christmas and the joy of spending time with family rather than for all the gifts.  I want them to know that I love them all year round and I do not feel the need to show it with a pile of things that we have bought.

I have blogged before that we have a rule for Christmas lists and even now in October they are busy thinking about what to put on it.  Rather than write a long list, they are being really mindful as their lists can only have four things on :


This year we are making another rule.  We are also going to make at least one christmas present for the people we love.  I have already started on a quilt for my niece and I will be sharing with you some inexpensive and easy to make gift ideas over the coming weeks.

One of the main ways that we have a mindful christmas is by celebrating advent and doing something everyday over the advent period.

    This is a great idea and I can see how it must really make your children think about their list. We have cut down year on year and last year I made a lot of gifts so will try to do the same this year.

    I have been making Liquers for the adults this year and will add home made sweets nearer the time. We also give the kids and grandkids money so they can save for something they want ie computers etc I used to buy book tokens until i realised that a book in a shop with a voucher cost a lot more than a book bought on line.My eldest daughter also get a Christmas pud that Mum made as she requests [something to eat].I like the list idea maybe I will sugest it to the family

Dumping the tumble dryer and Ecoforce giveaway

We have a tumble dryer, but it broke before christmas and we  couldn't afford to get it repaired, so I have been managing with an old fashioned wooden clothes rail and hanging bedding over the doors to dry, This last would of weeks however, I have been hanging the washing outside and it has been drying much quicker and with less creases, so I am going to take the plunge and instead of getting the dryer replaced I am going to give it away.
